Climate
While Florida does get both colder and hotter than the norm from time to time, the state has year-round weather as perfect as can be found in United States.
Generally, spring and fall bring the most pleasant days and nights in South Florida. Summers tend to be wet, hot, and humid. Winters are drier, mild, and sunny. When it rains in Florida, the rains rarely produce long gloomy days. It’s true that if you don’t like the rain, just wait an hour and the sun will pop out again.
With an average yearly rainfall of 54 inches, Florida is also one of the nation’s wettest states. However, rainfall is uneven and one area may be suffering drought conditions, while another much rain. In recent years, South Florida has been experiencing more drought conditions. Wildfires and fire preventions has become a concern, especially in the vast wilderness areas where the damage to the environment can be extensive. If you’re going to be camping, or even simply traveling in these areas, be extra careful with putting out campfires, cigarettes, and matches.
Florida weather and hurricanes, unfortunately, have become synonymous. Although only a few have done serious damage, the thought of a hurricane is frightening. The reality is that your chance of encountering a hurricane is slim to none. Even if you are an “unlucky” soul, you will know in plenty of time to leave the area if a big wind is coming. While the official hurricane season lasts from June to November, most storms have occurred between August and November.
